Rancho Los Alamitos. Hotchkis Collection.

Presents oral history interviews with six Mexican Americans who grew up or worked at Rancho Los Alamitos in Long Beach. The Bixby family maintained the ranch as an island of agriculture through the 1950s as post-World War II suburbs grew up around them. The narrators and their family members lived and worked on the ranch and they describe how they came to the ranch, the work they did while they lived there, their relationship with the ranch's owners, and what they did later in their lives, when most of the ranch lands were replaced by housing subdivisions. The interviews were conducted by the ranch owner's granddaughter.
